Mrs. Simon was born in Breidenbach, Germany, and escaped with her parents to the United States shortly after Kristallnacht. She is the cousin of YISE member, Debbie Katz.

A Kristallnacht Commemoration Program featuring Ruth Zimbler

Ruth Mondschein Zimbler was born in Vienna, Austria in 1928. Several months after the German annexation of Austria, Ruth and her brother, Walter, watched the destruction of the largest synagogue in Vienna from their apartment on November 10, 1938, during
Kristallnacht.Concerned about their children's safety Ruth's parents sent Ruth and her brother on the first Kindertransport out of Vienna. Ruth and her family eventually made it to safety in New York City in late 1939.

The Last Selection: A Child's Journey Through the Holocaust with Mrs. Golda Kalib

Golda Szachter Kalib was born in Bodzentyn, Poland in 1932, one of 5 children. The war came to Poland in September 1939 when Golda was seven years old. First, she was hidden in the open with a Christian family, given a false identity. Afterwards, she endured the Starachowice labor camp, Auschwitz, death marches and Bergen Belsen before liberation by the British in 1945. In 1990, Golda published The LAst Selection: A Child's Journey Through the Holocaust.
