Rabbi Binyamin Silver

Rabbi Binyamin Silver joins us from Long Beach, New York. He is currently serving as one of three Assistant Rabbis at the Young Israel of Long Beach, and previously served as a Rabbinic Intern at that synagogue. In his current position, Rabbi Silver is responsible for regularly delivering sermons, and lectures on Jewish law and philosophy; officiating at life cycle events; aiding in the local Kashrus certification; arranging and participating in parlor meetings, guest lectures, and special events; and helping the community in its outreach efforts to attract young couples, including involvement with youth groups. Rabbi Silver’s previous rabbinic experience includes serving as a summer Rabbi at Knesset Eliyahoo Synagogue in Mumbai, India in the summer of 2008.

Rabbi Silver received his Semicha from Rabbi Moshe Shternbuch, Executive Vice President, Rabbinical Court of Jerusalem, and previously studied at Ner Israel Rabbinical College, Pikesville, MD. Rabbi Silver earned a Juris Doctor, from Hofstra University School of Law in May 2013, and a Masters of Education in Administration and Supervision in May 2009 from Loyola University Chicago, Chicago, IL. Rabbi Silver served as a Law Clerk from 2011-2013 at Herman Katz Cangemi & Clyne, Melville, NY, and as a Legal Intern at Agudath Israel Legal Support Services LLC, New York, NY in the summer of 2011. Rabbi Silver’s interests include traveling and exploring exotic and new cultures, and Jewish History—in particular the Yeshiva movement of Eastern Europe in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

The congregation has many opportunities to hear Rabbi Silver speak and to interact with Rabbi Silver. Rabbi Silver will daven at the 8:00 minyan on Shabbos morning, where he will give a Dvar Torah. He will attend the 8:00 Minyan's Kiddush. He will also give a Dvar Torah at the 8:45 minyan (no earlier than 10:45), after which he will attend the 8:45 Minyan’s Kiddush. Rabbi Silver will meet with the Assistant Rabbi Search Committee on Shabbos afternoon so he can ask any additional questions he has about the community. He will teach a Shiur between Mincha and Maariv on Shabbos afternoon. On Sunday morning Rabbi Silver will attend a Meet & Greet event in the Social Hall from 9:30 to 10:00. This will be followed by a question and answer session with the congregation from 10:00 to 11:00. Questions may be submitted in advance by email to ARSC@yise.org (until midnight on motzai Shabbos) or in writing at the event. We ask that questions be submitted in writing so we can ensure a range of questions for each candidate. We hope that each member of the congregation is able to make time to attend at least one of the events at which Rabbi Silver will be available.

Please extend a warm welcome to Rabbi Silver and his fiancée Estee Lewkowicz, also joining us this Shabbos.
