Important Eruv News

A major road construction project at the corner of Georgia Avenue and Randolph Road that has been dormant for more than a year is now swinging into full gear and will have both short- and long-term impacts on the Kemp Mill-Northwood-White Oak Eruv beginning as soon as this week. Here's how you can do your part:

* Respond when we request volunteers. Did you know that the Eruv is repaired by busy people just like yourselves, who nevertheless volunteer their time on Friday afternoons (including by leaving work early as necessary)?

* Respond as generously as you are able to the Eruv's financial appeal for last year (if you have not already) and for the coming year. The short-term changes that may be required during the construction, as well as the long-term changes that will be required when the construction is completed, will likely cost thousands of dollars.

* Never assume the Eruv is up and never place yourself in a situation in which you must have an Eruv. Please call one of the Eruv hotlines every week or sign up for an Eruv status text message at http://yise.org/eruv (Thank you to YISE for hosting this service.)

The long-term plan is to route the Eruv around the construction, but this will have to occur in phases as the construction progresses. If you're curious for more detail, we will be offering tours. Please email silverspringeruv@gmail.com if you are interested.

We would be pleased to answer any of your questions, but we cannot predict the likelihood of the Eruv being up on any given Shabbos, including this coming one. We always do our best and, with your help, we will continue to do so.
